課程概述 |
Course Description
Translation editing forms part of the duties of an in-house translator. More often than not, translation editors learn on the job, accumulating experience and editing skills after many years of fulltime professional translation work.
This course will familiarize students with the tasks and duties of a translation editor through hands-on editing of existing translated texts centering on various fields such as news reports, editorials, science & technology, the humanities, social sciences, laws and regulations, business and commerce, as well as literature.

課程目標 |
Course Objectives
This course is a practice-based training designed to help students learn the skills necessary for editing and polishing Chinese and English translated texts. Classes will be conducted as follows:
(1) A weekly translation exercise of about 1200 Chinese characters long. At least 14 exercises during the term.
(2) Weekly editing projects submitted by students will be discussed in class, including analysis of editing done, corrections made, omissions, etc.
(3) Peer Review: Every now and then, students will be assigned to study and comment on the work of their classmates as a means to learn from one another, as well as consider their pros and cons, in comparison with their own work.
